Andaman Ferry Classes Explained: Which to Book (2026)

Every Andaman ferry operator names its classes differently — Economy, Premium, Deluxe, Luxury, Royal, Business — and the names don’t map cleanly across operators. The result is a lot of confused travelers paying for things they didn’t need. Here’s what each class actually gets you, and which one is worth booking.

Why ferry classes are so confusing

All four private operators run the same 90-minute crossing, but each invented its own class names and tiers. Makruzz’s “Deluxe” isn’t Nautika’s “Luxury,” and “Royal” means different things on different boats. There’s no industry standard.

What you’re really choosing between, underneath the marketing names, is three things: deck position (lower or upper), seat comfort and space, and on one operator, food. Speed is identical within each operator — a higher class doesn’t get you there faster.

Classes by operator

Here’s how the tiers line up across the four private operators on Port Blair to Havelock:

Operator Entry class Mid class Top class Only class with food
Makruzz Premium (Rs 1,250) Deluxe (upper deck) Royal (private cabin) Royal only
Nautika Luxury (Rs 1,250) Royal (upper deck) Business (Nautika Pro) None included
Green Ocean Economy (Rs 1,100) Royal Luxury None included
ITT Majestic Silver (Rs 1,564) Majesty None included

Fares add a Rs 50 service fee per sector. See the full Andaman ferry prices breakdown for every class and route.

What each class actually gets you

Makruzz: Premium, Deluxe, Royal

Premium is the standard lower-deck seat. Deluxe moves you to the upper deck with better seats, more space, and a calmer environment — but no meals, despite a common misconception. Royal is a private forward cabin at the vessel’s most stable spot, and it’s the only class on any operator that includes food: a sandwich and a drink, hot or cold. Not gourmet, but good, with attentive service.

Nautika: Luxury, Royal, Business

Nautika’s strength is service, not dramatically different seats. Luxury is the base. Royal sits on the upper deck with genuinely better panoramic views from the higher position. Business class on Nautika Pro is the most refined, and the Pro’s barista coffee is the real thing — a properly frothed latte, not the usual ferry disappointment. No class includes meals; you buy from the cafeteria.

Green Ocean: Economy, Royal, Luxury

Economy at Rs 1,100 is the cheapest seat on the route. The big differentiator on Green Ocean isn’t the class tier — it’s the vessel. Green Ocean 1 has the only open deck in the Andaman ferry fleet, where you can step outside for fresh air and views. That open-deck access matters more for your experience than which Green Ocean class you pick.

ITT Majestic: Silver, Majesty

ITT’s Silver class has dark leatherette seats that look modern and stay cool against your skin. The standout feature across all ITT classes is the floor-to-ceiling glass — panoramic windows running the length of the vessel. ITT also dropped its fuel surcharge in May 2026, which improves its value.

Which class is worth it?

Honest guidance, by traveler:

  • Most people: the entry class (Economy, Premium, or Luxury) is fine. Same crossing, same arrival time, lowest price.
  • Want better views and more space: an upper-deck mid class (Makruzz Deluxe, Nautika Royal) is the meaningful upgrade — higher position, fewer people, calmer.
  • Special occasion, elderly travelers, or families with infants: Makruzz Royal’s private cabin plus included food makes sense.
  • Coffee snob: Nautika Pro Business for the barista coffee.

One thing the price tiers won’t tell you: if you’re prone to seasickness, a cheaper lower-deck seat is actually better than an upper-deck premium one. The lower deck sways less. Don’t pay extra for a position that makes you queasier — more in our ferry seasickness guide.

Upper deck vs lower deck

Upper-deck classes get better views from the higher vantage point and a quieter, less crowded feel. Lower-deck seats are cheaper, closer to the waterline, and steadier in chop. The view difference is real and worth paying for if scenery matters to you — but for stability and budget, lower wins. Pick based on whether you value the view or your stomach more.

Frequently asked questions

What are the ferry classes in Andaman?

Each operator names them differently: Makruzz has Premium, Deluxe, and Royal; Nautika has Luxury, Royal, and Business; Green Ocean has Economy, Royal, and Luxury; ITT Majestic has Silver and Majesty. Higher classes mean upper-deck seats, more space, and better views — speed is the same.

Is premium or royal class worth it on Andaman ferries?

For most travelers, the entry class is fine — it’s the same crossing at the lowest price. Upgrade to an upper-deck class for better views and more space, or to Makruzz Royal if you want a private cabin and included food. Higher classes don’t arrive faster.

Which Andaman ferry class includes food?

Only Makruzz Royal class includes food — a sandwich and a drink (hot or cold). Every other class on every operator, including Makruzz Deluxe, is cafeteria purchase only. Makruzz Gold’s cafeteria is catered by Taj and noticeably better than the others.

What’s the difference between economy and luxury ferry class?

Economy or entry classes are lower-deck seats at the lowest fare. Luxury and upper-deck classes offer more space, better views from a higher position, and a calmer environment. Both make the identical 90-minute crossing — you’re paying for comfort and position, not speed.
