Haddo Jetty is where almost every Andaman island trip begins. If you’re sailing from Port Blair to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) or Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) on a private ferry — Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean, or ITT Majestic — this is the terminal you board from. It sits on the western edge of Port Blair, a short drive from Veer Savarkar International Airport, and on a peak-season morning it’s one of the busiest places in the islands. This guide covers exactly where it is, which ferries leave from here, how to get there from the airport, when to arrive, and how boarding actually works — plus the one mix-up that catches first-timers out: Haddo Jetty is not the same as Phoenix Bay Jetty.

Where Is Haddo Jetty?

Haddo Jetty — also written Haddo Wharf — is the passenger ferry terminal in the Haddo neighbourhood of Port Blair, on the Andaman Islands. It’s run by the Port Management Board, and the entrance is marked by a blue “Passenger Terminal” gate off the main Haddo road. This is the departure point for the fast private catamarans that connect Port Blair with the two islands most visitors are heading to: Havelock and Neil.

It’s roughly 4 km from Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) and a similar distance from the main Aberdeen Bazaar area — 15 to 20 minutes by taxi in normal traffic. Because every private-ferry passenger in Port Blair funnels through here, the terminal forecourt gets genuinely crowded on peak mornings, with porters, taxis, and hundreds of travellers converging at once.

Haddo Jetty vs Phoenix Bay Jetty: Don’t Mix Them Up

This is the single most common Port Blair mistake, and it can cost you your ferry. Port Blair has three separate jetties, each serving a different kind of boat:

Haddo Jetty vs Phoenix Bay Jetty: Don’t Mix Them Up
Jetty What departs here How to book
Haddo Jetty (Haddo Wharf) Private catamaran ferries to Havelock & Neil — Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean, ITT Majestic Online, in advance
Phoenix Bay Jetty Government (DSS) ferries to Havelock, Neil, Rangat, Diglipur & the outer islands At the counter, ~2 days before
Aberdeen Jetty / Water Sports Complex Ross Island & North Bay harbour boats and glass-bottom cruises Local counter / operator

The rule of thumb: if you booked your ferry online, you’re going to Haddo. If you’re taking the cheaper government ferry, that leaves from Phoenix Bay, about a kilometre away. The two are close but not the same building — always check the operator name on your ticket before you tell the taxi driver where to go. Every private operator we work with departs from Haddo.

Which Ferries Depart from Haddo Jetty?

All four private operators run from Haddo, each with its own check-in counter inside the terminal:

  • Makruzz — the largest operator, with the most daily departures to Havelock and, in our experience, the most organised check-in at Haddo (more ground staff, which matters in the morning rush).
  • Nautika — the newest fleet, with a premium business class on Nautika Pro.
  • Green Ocean — the budget-friendly private option.
  • ITT Majestic — reliable service on the main routes.

Haddo Jetty Ferry Timings

Departures are heavily front-loaded to the morning. Most private ferries leave between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM, with a smaller set of midday and afternoon sailings. There’s a practical reason to take an early boat beyond just getting a full day on the island: the 6:00–8:00 AM departures hit the calmest seas, which makes a real difference if you’re prone to seasickness.

Exact times shift by operator and season, so confirm your sailing against the live Andaman ferry schedule when you book rather than relying on a fixed table.

Getting to Haddo Jetty from the Airport

Veer Savarkar International Airport to Haddo Jetty is a short hop — about 4 km, 15–20 minutes by road in normal conditions:

  • Prepaid taxi from the airport: expect roughly ₹300–500 depending on the time and your bargaining.
  • Auto-rickshaw: cheaper, but not always available for the jetty run early in the morning.
  • Hotel pickup: if you’re staying a night in Port Blair first, most hotels can arrange a jetty drop.

One honest warning about same-day connections: if your flight lands in Port Blair the same morning you want to sail, it’s tight. Morning ferries check in early, and any flight delay can cost you the boat. If you can, fly in the day before and stay a night in Port Blair — or read our how to reach Havelock guide for the timing maths on a same-day link.

When to Arrive & How Boarding Works

Plan to reach Haddo Jetty 45–60 minutes before departure, and more in peak season (roughly December–January and the long weekends). Arrive early and you’ll find your operator’s counter, check in, and drop your luggage without stress; cut it fine and you’ll be pushing through a packed forecourt looking for the right queue.

The boarding sequence is straightforward once you’re there:

Ferry check-in counters inside the Haddo Jetty passenger terminal

  1. Find your operator’s check-in counter inside the terminal (Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean and ITT each have their own).
  2. Show your ticket and a valid photo ID — carry a printed or screenshot copy of your e-ticket; don’t rely on live network at the jetty.
  3. Hand over checked luggage at the counter; keep valuables and travel documents with you.
  4. Wait in the seating area until your sailing is called, then walk down to the pontoon to board.

The morning rush is real — dozens of departures can overlap between 6 and 9 AM — so the earlier you clear check-in, the calmer your start.

Facilities at Haddo Jetty

Haddo is more organised than “remote island jetty” might suggest, without being an airport. You’ll find:

  • Snack stalls and a small shop for water, chips, biscuits and cold drinks — worth stocking up before a 90-minute-plus crossing.
  • A covered waiting area with seating.
  • Washrooms (basic; go before you board).
  • Parking and a taxi stand in the forecourt.

There’s no tourist “entry fee” to use the passenger terminal — you pay for your ferry ticket, and that’s it.

Booking Your Ferry from Haddo Jetty

Because Haddo handles only the private operators, the simplest way to lock a seat is to book online before you fly — peak-season morning ferries sell out days ahead, and turning up hoping for a same-day ticket is a gamble in December–January.

Which ferries leave from Haddo Jetty?

All four private catamaran operators depart from Haddo: Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean and ITT Majestic, running to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). Government (DSS) ferries leave from the separate Phoenix Bay Jetty.

Is Haddo Jetty the same as Phoenix Bay Jetty?

How far is Haddo Jetty from Port Blair airport?

About 4 km, or 15–20 minutes by road. A prepaid airport taxi typically runs ₹300–500. Allow extra time for a morning ferry, especially in peak season.

How early should I reach Haddo Jetty?
